As a top motivational speaker for foster care conferences, I want to take this opportunity to bring awareness to the loving side of the foster care system. It seems like there’s always an article or a news story that reports about abusive foster parents or an incompetent social worker. While this may be true in some instances, I believe that there is an overwhelmingly amount of good within the foster care system. There are amazing foster parents who are emotionally invested in helping a child have a secure and safe environment free from abuse, molestation, drugs and neglect. Having spent thirteen years in the foster care myself, I can assure you that the system saved my life from brutal child abuse, death, rejection and abandonment. It’s because of a fantastic social worker and loving, committed foster parents! They provided me a safe environment to thrive in. They taught me how to connect, trust, creatively express myself and start the healing process which ultimately led me to forgiving my biological parents.
